Professor Zhu Weiqun Visited Our Company and Gave a Lecture on a New Path to Car

By changing the extensive utilization mode of existing fossil energy, and simultaneously making efficient use of its energy and material components, an energy route for carbon sequestration and utilization of fossil energy and a material industry route can be formed.

(An Academician of the International Academy of Sciences Elaborates on the Carbon Sequestration Revolution of Fossil Energy, and the Triazanol Technology Ushered in a New Era of Carbon Neutrality Industry)


On March 23, 2025, Professor Zhu Weiqun, an academician of the Hong Kong International Academy of Sciences and a professor at Shandong University, was invited to give an academic lecture titled "An Alternative Path to Achieving the Carbon Neutrality Goal - A New Route for the Industrial Fixation and Utilization of Carbon Dioxide" for our company.


This lecture focused on the innovative route of "Simultaneous and Efficient Utilization of Energy and Elements in Fossil Energy (EMSU)". It systematically analyzed the full-chain technical solutions from theoretical breakthroughs to industrial implementation, injecting new impetus into our company's strategic layout in the field of carbon neutrality.


Our company's General Manager Wang Qiyao, R&D Director Nian Fuwei, and the team of the Science and Technology Innovation Center attended the lecture. Guests such as Luo Guanglin, a fourth-level researcher from the Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, Pan Junda, General Manager of Beiyang Intellectual Property, and Zhong Chaosheng, General Manager of Guangdong Shengjin Xuxiang Carbon Assets, also participated. The academic lecture was presided over by Professor Liu Zhimeng.


Professor Zhu Weiqun pointed out that among the 37.4 billion tons of CO₂ emitted globally each year, the amount of artificial utilization is less than 1 billion tons. Traditional carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) has high costs and low efficiency, and there is an urgent need for "breakthrough technologies" for carbon neutrality. He proposed:
"Fossil energy is not only an energy source but also a carrier of hydrocarbon substances. Through the EMSU route, its energy and elements can be efficiently utilized simultaneously, achieving 'using carbon without emitting carbon' from the source."
Energy industry route: Convert the CO₂ generated from the utilization of fossil energy into a stable solid product, triazanol (C₃H₃N₃O₃), which has high carbon sequestration and low energy consumption, and release energy simultaneously for clean utilization. Technical advantages: Each ton of triazanol fixes 1 ton of CO₂. There is no generation of nitrogen oxides during the reaction process. Sulfur elements are converted into sulfur for recovery. The hydrogen consumption is low, and the released energy can drive devices such as gas turbines and fuel cells.
Material industry route: Develop low-carbon polymer materials using triazanol as a raw material, which have the characteristics of "low carbon emissions, low energy consumption, and high performance", and replace traditional high-energy-consuming materials to form a circular economy of carbon resources. This route only requires the consumption of 1 ton of standard coal to produce 1 ton of materials, and the comprehensive energy efficiency is significantly improved.


In terms of industrialization potential, Professor Zhu Weiqun also listed some implementation scenarios:
Fixation and utilization of CO₂: The dry and efficient desulfurization and decarbonization technology for pollutants in coal-fired flue gas can reduce the emission of sulfur oxides by more than 90%;
Zero-carbon heating: Retrofit the heating devices using fossil energy to achieve zero carbon emissions throughout the process;
Material substitution: The large-scale application of triazine-based polymer materials in fields such as aerospace and shipbuilding. According to calculations, this technical route can significantly reduce global CO₂ emissions and relieve the pressure of the green energy transition.
Professor Zhu Weiqun's profound academic foundation and his easy-to-understand examples and explanations left a deep impression on everyone. The lecture, which lasted for more than an hour, left everyone wanting more.


During the communication session, General Manager Wang Qiyao had an in-depth discussion with Professor Zhu on the technical industrialization path:
Energy route: It is necessary to match the process retrofitting of existing thermal power and chemical plants and give priority to pilot projects in industrial concentration areas;
Material route: Cooperate with downstream building materials and transportation equipment manufacturers to establish a certification and market promotion mechanism for low-carbon materials.

In this academic lecture, Professor Zhu Weiqun's wonderful speech broadened the technical innovation vision of our company's R&D team and deepened the understanding of the "dual carbon" strategy. Through direct communication with top experts, it provided important references for the company's R&D layout in fields such as new energy materials and environmental protection technologies.
